CALENDULA(Calendula Officinalis L.)


BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION - Annual plant. Tapered root. Stem erect or climbing, 30 to 50 cm high, branched at the bottom. Leaves alternate, slightly toothed and hairy. Yellow or orange flowers. The fruits are concave and grooved achenes. It blooms from July to September.

COLLECTION - Flowers at the time of flowering.

DRUGS - Whole flowers.

ACTIVE INGREDIENTS - Essential oil, flavonoids, saponosides, triterpene alcohols, xanthophyll pigments and tannins.

PROPERTIES - For the essential oil, antiseptic and parasiticidal action. For the alcohols and terpene lactones, antibiotic and fungicide action. Also anti-inflammatory, healing, emenagoga, spasmolytic, sudorific, choleretic and hypotensive.

USES and APPLICATIONS - Topical route; Acne, skin irritations, scalds, burns, bruises, insect bites, disinfectant, healing. Internal route for menstrual and digestive problems.

BLUEBERRY
 Vaccinium Myrtillus 

L.BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION - Deciduous shrub, 30 to 50 cm high, with stems very branched, covered by a thin gray bark. The leaves are alternated with the toothed, oval-shaped, light green color. The flowers are pendant and solitary, with bell-shaped and pink-green color. The fruits are blackish or blueish berries, with juicy flesh.

COLLECTION - The leaves are collected from the sterile branches and the fruits are ripe.

DRUG - Fruits and leaves.

ACTIVE INGREDIENTS - Tannins, anthocyanosides, organic acids, pectin, hydroquinone, flavonoids, triterpenic acids.

PROPERTIES - Anti-inflammatory, antihemorrhagic, astringent, antiseptic, vitamin P activity, which improves circulation, increases resistance and controls capillary permeability.

BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION -
Annual plant that reaches 90 cm in height. It has fine root and spindle and simple stem, erect and hairy. The leaves are alternating and sharp. The flowers develop in the armpits of the leaves and are solitary, hanging when they are young and erect afterwards. They usually have a black spot on the base. It blooms from May to July.

Traditional Uses:


A) internal use: cystitis, urethritis, kidney and bladder stones; Gout and swelling (edema); Bronchitis, pharyngitis, dyspepsia, bad breath.

The infusion is prepared with 1 tablespoon of the vegetable for 1 liter of freshly boiled water; Drink 1 cup 3 times in a day.

B) external use: rheumatism, arthritis, post-herpetic neuralgias, muscular pains, mycosis. The decoction (boiling) is prepared by boiling 1 tablespoon of the vegetable in 1 liter of water for 10 minutes: use by washing and compresses.
