Cat's claw is a medicinal plant that grows in many tropical rainforest countries. The scientific name of this medicinal plant is Uncaria Tomentosa. This plant belongs to the family of plants Rubiaceae. This herb can also be found with the common names of: Samento, Saventaro, Gavilán's Nail, Scribble, Peace and Justice, Cat's Bejuco.


The cat's claw is climbing shrub, growing forming vines among the nearby trees.
This medicinal plant has the leaves simple, with its sharp apex, obtuse base, whole edge, 17 cm. long by 10 cm. wide, the color is yellowish green.

The stem of this medicinal plant is a vine of up to 20 m. of length, with young quadrangular branches, woody, and have massive thorns of 2 cm. long. The flowers of these medicinal plants possess the corolla in the form of a funnel of 5 cm. of length by 0.6 mm. in diameter, and are hermaphrodites. The fruits of the cat's claw are bivalve capsules of about 12 mm. long.

The seeds of these plants are dicotyledonous, fusiform, longitudinal, up to 4 mm. of length.
Among its medicinal properties it is found that the cat's claw has diverse anti-inflammatory properties, such as arthritis, gastritis, dermal inflammations and urological pathways.
Applied in treatments of tumors and certain types of cancer. It was also recently discovered that serves in the treatment of AIDS. Effective in gastric ulcer, and in viral processes.
