The tobacco plant is native to America, although it is currently cultivated in other areas of the planet. It is the main raw material for the manufacture of cigarettes. The scientific name is Nicotina tabacum and belongs to the Solanaceae family. Tobacco is known more its negative effects on health than its positive properties. This plant has as its main active substance nicotine, which when consumed in high doses is very harmful to health, but in low doses it is stimulating and relaxing the nervous system.

The other big problem is that it has a very addictive effect on people. It is not advisable to smoke cigarettes since in addition to tobacco has many other chemicals harmful to health. Dry leaves of tobacco are those that possess the medicinal properties but also are toxic, depending on the way in which it is administered.

The healthiest way to take advantage of the qualities of this plant is chewing it or using it in plasters as well as extracting juice. It is not advisable to inhale or smoke tobacco because of its negative long-term health consequences. The tobacco plant has some medicinal properties diuretic, vomiting, vermifuge, sedative. The tobacco plant can be used externally to treat hemorrhoids, skin conditions, bumps, bruises, rheumatism, favors the elimination of fluids, stimulates salivary secretion, neuralgias, worms and intestinal parasites.

Smoking when burned eliminates nicotine and this is a toxic substance that produces with the progressive use in the smoker cardiac, respiratory, cancer, digestive, vascular disorders among many other diseases. These are just some of the health consequences. Native Americans used natural tobacco as a medicine for different conditions. At present people do not consume natural tobacco because in cigarettes is only one component of a large set of substances. It is not advisable to smoke cigarettes as it is very bad for health, but if you can use this plant externally as it does not cause danger in this way.
