Tilia Platyphyllos

BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION - Tree 25 to 30 m high. Smooth, grayish-brown bark, slightly cracked along the trunk. The curved and hairless branches, of greenish-brown color. The buds are alternate, oval and blunt, and are covered with red or olive green scales. The leaves are alternate and have jagged edges. The flowers are hermaphrodite and are grouped, are spherical and greenish yellow. The fruits are smooth oval or spherical achenes, dark brown in color. It blooms in June.

COLLECTION - The inflorescences with their bract when they have just opened, leaving those that are still coats and those that withered.

DRUGS - Flowers and bracts.

ACTIVE PRINCIPLES - Flavonoids, essential oil, mucilages, tannins and organic acids.

PROPERTIES - Sedative, antispasmodic, diaphoretic, mild diuretic, emollient, slightly astringent, estomáquica and hypotensive.



USES and APPLICATIONS - Oral use in states of nervousness, colds with fever, insomnia, indigestion, hyperclohydria, diarrhea and headache. Topical route for sensitive or dry skin.
